Run gui program and connect to a headless server using VNC

# install
    aptitude install x11vnc xvfb icewm
# start
    export DISPLAY=:0
    Xvfb :0 -screen 0 1024x768x16 -nolisten tcp &
    x11vnc -display :0 -bg -nopw -listen localhost -xkb -forever &
    icewm &
# connect
    # on a Windows host connect to the server using putty and forward a port
        putty L5900    localhost:5900
    # now connect to 127.0.0.1 using a VNC client
